A Foxy Gent.

Title illustration of Mr. Tod from The Tale of...Image via Wikipedia
Being spoon fed Beatrix Potter as a child has made me a firm believer that when the house is quiet the mice come out wearing their beautiful Victorian clothes to pilfer any children's toys they might find useful, that Foxy "gentlemen" wear waistcoats, and rabbits wear clogs(I swear I saw it myself once). Inspired so, I decided to try  my own needle felted interpretation of a fox in a vest. I'll be taking pictures along the way to try and show my creative process. I begin, as everyone else, with an idea in mind. Usually the sculpture forms itself in a different way. Wool seems to have a life of its own and I try and go with the flow. My plan for him is to be tiny bit sinister but mostly cute. Foxes are cute but they are predators(and eat my dads
chickens).Naturalist, Ms.Potter put that in her books. "Nobody could call Mr. Tod "nice." The rabbits could not bear him; they could smell him half a mile off. He was of a wandering habit and he had foxy whiskers; they never knew where he would be next. " Beatrix Potter The Tale of Mr. Tod (1912)

Of course by the time it occurred to me that this would be a good blog post I had already begun the head. Here are the first shots of his head. His ears are rough and only tacked on  for now.

As you can see his eyes are not adhered. Nor are they permanent. These are plastic stuffed animal eyes I hacked from some cheap dollar store rabbit (mmmwuhaahaaa). I'm ordering glass eyes, but I also wanted to explore eye placement. I found placement I liked and cut an opening with the ex acto knife. By doing this it leaves a nice opening for the wire so I can either sew or glue it in.

That it for now, I've gone on long enough and of course the kids are being kids.

The "Poop" on Cloth Diapers

You may or may not  know that July 5th thru 11th is cloth diaper week on The Crafty Nest. Yes! An entire week devoted to cloth diapers!

The Crafty Nest Cloth Diaper Week

Click the links to fly to the Nest and begin your cloth diaper journey. As Vanessa has a fantastic wealth of info already blogged, I'm not really going to delve deep here. I'm just gonna chat about my experience.

My three children were not cloth diapered though I wish I could have now. I just wasn't aware that people still did it. Seriously folks , isolated little county in Maryland...We don't have a diaper service, we have one health food store which unfortunately when my two oldest were in diapers didn't get much press. Most importantly we (incorrectly) thought it would be too expensive.

My two year old is potty training right now. Disposable training pants are absorbent and he  would sit in them all day for all he cared, even the "cool feeling" ones. So I purchased some cloth training pants. LOVE THEM!  They actually let my son feel the discomfort of poop and pee. When hes wearing them he goes potty.Don't get me wrong he has accidents but they are much less then when he was wearing disposables. They are not hard to clean, in fact I use a environmentally friendly stain spray and they are just as white as when I bought them.I'm not pulling your leg! Again, The Crafty Nest has awesome posts regarding cloth diapers, cleaning them, benefits, where to purchase them, etc.

I bought my sons training pants from fellow Etsy shop Q.T.Bunns.  She has her adorable logo stitched along one of the leg holes. They are soft, cute as can be and are super durable. I toss them in the wash with my towels and they just get softer and softer each time, but not one stitch has come undone. We have these.
CUTE HUH!

I hate to blog and run but my daughters birthday is coming up and we are planning a MAD TEA PARTY!! We're pretty excited case ya couldn't tell. We're in the midst of crafting invites and costume planning. She'll have pics and details over on her blog Bugabugs Faves.  See you all next time!

Hamburgers. I put a little mustard on mine. Deelish!

I do like to watch parades but I don't like crowds of people so I'm thankful to live in a small town.

5. Who has stinkier farts..boys or girls?
My husband would say girls, I would have to say BOYS!! I have two boys and I guess that makes me an expert!

Occasionally.

8. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough!!!!!!!!!

New Flowers

I haven't attached them to anything yet. I'm tossing around the idea of delicate hair bobs or lovely rings. I shaped them out of merino wool in deelish summer colors. They are in different stages of completion. Most have a pearl bead center. I'm going to be making a bunch more and listing on my Etsy page every day.(Note my patriotic foam block cover!Happy almost 4th!)

My First Etsy Treasury

Finally I made my first Etsy Treasury! Its titled Yellow...Aqua...Brown...Cream. Brings to mind breezy summer days! I hope someday I get on a treasury! Here is the link! Hope you enjoy it. I see I'll be making many many more!
